Local retailers and realtors will come together next month to hold the 14th annual Fill the Gazebo Food Drive to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank. The food drive will be held at various collection locations in the area on Saturday, May 7th, from 9 am to 1 pm. The event began in 2003 when the Livingston County Association of Realtors, or LCAR, wanted to reach out to a local charity. LCAR President Todd Buckley says LCAR chose Gleaners after their eyes were opened to just how many struggling families were in the area. The benefit has grown each year and Buckley tells WHMI they have set big fundraising goals in hopes of helping as many community members as possible. LCAR’s goal is to raise $15,000 and collect 5,000 lbs of food for Gleaners this year. Buckley says donors can also drop items off at realtor offices throughout the county or at drive-up lanes in downtown Howell and Brighton. Kroger, VG’s, and GFS in Hartland, Brighton, and Howell will also serve as collection sites. Monetary donations can be made online at the link below. (DK)
